A Simpler Way to Rent Out Your Scissor Lift (Built by Someone Who Actually Uses One)

  • Post category:ScissorHire

If you’ve ever owned a scissor lift, you’ll know the feeling — it’s either flat out busy, or it’s sitting there doing absolutely nothing.

I’m an electrician working out in rural Victoria, and that’s exactly the problem I kept running into. When I wasn’t using my lift, it felt like wasted potential. So like most people, I tried listing it in a few places — Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, word of mouth — and while that worked occasionally, it wasn’t exactly consistent or efficient.

That’s what led me to build ScissorHire.

The First Attempt (And Where It Went Wrong)

A few years ago, I launched the first version of the platform. The idea was simple: create a dedicated place for people to list access equipment and connect with customers looking to hire.

But in hindsight, I overcooked it.

The platform asked for too much information, took too long to set up listings, and ended up being harder to use than it should have been. While plenty of people showed interest and signed up, too many dropped off before actually getting their gear listed.

That’s on me.

Back to Basics

So I went back to the drawing board and rebuilt the platform from scratch with one clear goal:

Make it dead simple to list a machine and start getting enquiries.

The new version strips everything back to what actually matters. You don’t need to fill out endless forms or dig up every spec sheet. Listing a machine now takes just a couple of minutes.

All you need is:

  • Model (or best description)
  • A photo
  • Your rates
  • Delivery info (if applicable)

That’s it.

No Fees, No Commissions — Just Enquiries

One of the biggest frustrations with other platforms is the constant shaving off the top — commissions, fees, or subscriptions that eat into your margin.

That’s why ScissorHire is completely free to use.

No listing fees.
No commissions.
No catches.

It’s simply a place to connect people who have equipment with people who need it.

Built for Real-World Use

This isn’t a startup backed by investors or built in a boardroom — it’s something I built because I needed it myself.

It’s designed for:

  • Tradies with a single machine
  • Small hire operators
  • Anyone with gear sitting idle between jobs

If your lift isn’t working, it should at least be earning.

Relaunching — And Looking for Feedback

The platform has just been relaunched, and while it’s already a huge improvement, I know there’s always more to refine.

If you’ve got a scissor lift (or any access gear), I’d love for you to check it out, throw up a listing, and see how it feels.

More importantly — if something doesn’t make sense or could be better, I want to hear about it.

Because at the end of the day, this only works if it works for you.
