Transformer Replacement – Rapid Response for Critical Lathe Equipment

Following the identification of a shorted transformer within the control gear of a large industrial lathe at an engineering facility, our team initiated a rapid response to restore functionality with minimal downtime.

The failure was traced back to metal filings that had inadvertently been introduced into the electrical enclosure, leading to an internal short circuit and the subsequent failure of the existing transformer. Given the need for specific voltage tappings to suit the lathe’s control requirements, an off-the-shelf replacement was not an option.

We promptly commissioned a custom-wound transformer, tailored to match the machine’s unique electrical specifications. Within 48 hours, the transformer was designed, manufactured, and dispatched over 350 kilometers to our site. The urgency of the operation meant the unit was installed with the paint still curing—an impressive turnaround made possible through close coordination with our suppliers and in-house team. The result was a fully restored, operational lathe in the shortest possible timeframe, minimising production delays and ensuring continuity for our client’s critical engineering operations.
